THINGS I SHOULD REMEMBER

I should not remember all things
For they are far too many,
And even should I dare to try
Might I not remember any.

But there are those too dear
One should not wish to lose,
Far better are the sweetest fruits,
It's these that we should choose.

How many times have we all been told,
Silver will only tarnish.
All that glitters Is not gold.
Pay no attention to the man
Who stands behind the curtain,
And only half of what you are told
is never really certain.

Yet in the heart are written down,
Far greater thoughts of men renown,
In humble sacred meditations
are sentinels that prompt those
Prone to falling down,

I cling to these like marker stones,
Press them tight within my hand,
And weep to know I shall not forget,
When called upon to stand.
